MY STORY

The first time I studied the brain was during a Science Olympiad competition in middle school, and I was amazed by how cells and electricity work together to create thoughts and actions! At ECU, I chose to study neuroscience and psychology to further understand how the brain functions. During some of my classes, I became interested in chemistry, so I added a chemistry major as well to learn how drugs and body processes work on an atomic and functional level. Throughout my second and third years at ECU, I took part in the AHEC Scholars program to learn about inter-professional education and various health professions, and explore potential careers in healthcare for myself.
During my four years at ECU, I was involved in many campus organizations as well as research projects! I worked with Dr. Michael Baker in the Psychology Department to plan and carry out a research study I designed to investigate the relationship between Music and ADHD as it relates to productivity! I presented my findings during the Capture 180 Research Challenge during Research and Creative Achievement Week 2025 and won! I also worked with Dr. Lori Ann Eldridge from the Department of Public Health to create a 6-session curriculum and research Student Self Efficacy based on Undergraduate Pre-Health Interprofessional Organization through a club I helped start called Buff in Scrubs. On the side, I worked as a caregiver for a disabled young woman with Rett’s Syndrome, and as a tutor for the Pirate Academic Success Center. Beyond research, I have been involved in the Martial Arts Club as social media manager and been a part of the Brinkley-Lane Scholars and Honors Programs. During the summer of 2023, I had to chance to study Spanish Language and Literature abroad in Granada, Spain, and since then, I have developed a love for traveling and exploring new places!
“ I have really enjoyed my time at ECU and all the opportunities for friendship, learning, research, and hobbies.“
