    Clinical Interests

    Dr. Shortway is a licensed psychologist and health service provider in North Carolina and a licensed psychologist in New Jersey. As the Assistant Director of the PASS Clinic, she is primarily involved in the supervision and training of graduate students, especially relevant to adolescent and adult populations. Her clinical interests include assessment of sexual trauma, application of acceptance- and mindfulness-based interventions such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), clinical sport psychology, respecting and honoring cultural identities and values in psychological services, and the practice of self-compassion for both clients and clinicians. Before joining the faculty at ECU, she trained and worked in private practice, university counseling, medical, and school settings. Dr. Shortway has also taught, trained, and advised graduate students in their clinical work and research as a former faculty member at Kean University and was most recently the Coordinator of Training at the Counseling, Health, and Wellness Center at William Paterson University.
