Please note: The GRE General Test will not be required by the Department of Psychology for the 2022-2023 admission cycle (i.e., for students applying for Fall 2023 enrollment). The department is piloting the elimination of the GRE requirement.

Application Instructions for Psychology Graduate Programs

The application process for our graduate programs is mostly the same across programs, but there are slight differences, so please be sure to read each section’s instructions and information.

Deadlines for Application Submission:

  • Health Psychology (PhD) Clinical Health: December 1st
  • Health Psychology (PhD) Pediatric School: January 1st
  • Health Psychology (PhD) Occupational Health: February 1st
  • School Psychology (MA/SSP): February 1st
  • Industrial/Organizational Psychology (MA): March 1st

Step 1

Complete the ECU Department of Psychology Supplemental Application.

The ECU Department of Psychology Supplemental Application is a required portion of your application and if it is not completed your application may not be reviewed. If you have questions or concerns about your supplemental application, please contact the Graduate Program Director.

Step 2

Complete Health Psychology PhD Survey.

If you are applying to the Health Psychology Ph.D. program in the Clinical Health or Pediatric School concentrations, you will need to take the Health Psychology PhD Survey.

Step 3

Gather and prepare the materials outlined below and complete the ECU Graduate School Application.

Be sure to review the requirements for graduate school admission prior to completing the application for the Health Psychology concentration of interest.

A complete application will contain:

  • Your background information
  • The application fee ($75.00)
    • Some applicants may be eligible for waivers – questions about eligibility are in the application
    • Visa or Mastercard payment only
  • Letters of reference in support of your application
    • 3 letters for all PhD Health Psychology concentrations, and 2 letters for all MA concentrations (Industrial/Organizational & School Psychology).
    • Letters will be submitted through the application’s electronic system
  • A statement of purpose (no page limits/word counts, formatting requirements)
  • GRE Scores (ECU’s code is 5180, no need for the program code) not required for the 2024-2025 application cycle.
  • Transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended
    • Submit electronically through a secure transcript service such as Parchment, e-Scrip or Avow to gradschool@ecu.edu, or mail to the Graduate School at the following address: ECU Graduate School, 131 Ragsdale Hall, Mail Stop 570, Greenville, NC 27858
