Research Interests

Dr. Maag’s research interests involve both language development and the mechanisms by which complex words are understood, a topic known as morphological awareness. The skill of morphological awareness allows one to understand new words the first time they are encountered if the individual morphemes are known. For example, a person who knows the word vapor and should have no problem understanding the word unvaporized. Future studies will involve assessing morphological awareness in adults and its relationship to comprehension in college-level reading.
